Primal Life Organics – Paleo Skincare

I always chuckle when I read product reviews.  I know every body is different and each person reacts differently to products.  However, I still get sucked into reading about how a product has changed someones life.  Well, it seems the reviews for Primal Life Organics are starting to add up…and…I caved and bought into it.  Yes, I did this willingly without a 3am infomercial inspiring me.  I was drawn to the products for two reasons.  First, they use natural ingredients found in nature, which makes it a Paleo skincare company in my mind.  Secondly, they create these products in a humane way.  Both of my reasons go hand-in-hand when picking out products for my body.  When picking out my products, I ordered based on curiosity and transformation.  I was curious to see if these “all natural products” would truly work with my body.

I ordered a few things from Primal Life Organics…oh, I should add I ordered an item for my husband too!  I did not want to leave him out of this experience.  Well needless to say, our products shipped and we started using them the next day!  Read below for my thoughts on the products AND A COUPON CODE AT THE END! Pork Chops with Fig Compote

I use my pork chops with fig compote recipe when life is crazy busy, but I want a good home cooked meal.  As I get older, I have found cooking to be a great stress reliever.  Even just five minutes in the kitchen helps me to relax.  This dish gives me more than five minutes in the kitchen, perhaps ten!  However, it is a dish you taste and think I have spent and evening creating it!  I love the salty taste from the pork chop paired up with the sweet taste of the figs.

Life just does not slow down around here!  I keep sayings, “If only there was another hour in the day”.  However, between you and I…I would fill that one hour and want another!  I would be like the character in the story “If you give a moose a muffin” because I think I would just keep asking for another hour to go with it!  Have a great weekend and enjoy every minute of it!

10 Minute Apple Crumble

This recipe was created for the person who wants something sweet, does not want to turn on their oven and bake a whole pie or apple crumble.  My go-to quick way to satisfy the cooked apple craving is with a pan-fried apple.  Now, I have taken a pan-fried, added my favorite granola to make an amazing crumble.  So together, this recipe becomes a 10 minute apple crumble.  Simple and easy folks is how I do it!

If you have never tried my favorite Paleo Crack from Bubba’s, you are missing out!  Now, I may give all the attention to the Paleo Crack, but their Ungranola is amazing too!  I’ll be honest, I’m not much of a breakfast cereal person, but this Ungranola is perfect as a crumble topping!  If you are interested in trying it, they are giving my lucky readers 10% off until the end of October, just use the code SASSY10.  I recommend trying the variety pack and sampling all their amazing items!

My Journey…

Many people hate to see their pictures.  Pictures are reality and often we are trying to hide the zit on our face, the roll of fat on our arm or the extra bump we have gained due to a food baby.  I also know a picture can speak a thousand words without having one word in it.

Over the past two and half years, I have lost over 65 pounds following a Paleo lifestyle which fits me.  In the beginning of my journey to find a healthy body, I was constantly losing weight.  People would comment how great I looked and I would smile and accept their complement.  What those kind people did not know was deep down I was thinking they were crazy giving me the compliment.  I thought they were complimenting me because they noticed my drive for change and didn’t want me to become discouraged when I did not see it.  Were there physical signs I was losing weight…yes!  I loved shopping for clothes but at one point became discouraged because I would purchase a nice pair of pants and they would be too baggy two weeks later and back to shopping I went…I always knew were the clearance rack was located in my favorite stores.  I knew change was occurring when I would go shopping, but I never accepted it because I always had a mental picture of myself as the girl with the unhealthy body.

Bagels from the cookbook Without Grain

When I got the cookbook, Without Grain by Hayley Barisa Ryczek (who blogs over at Health Starts in the Kitchen) I was participating in the 21 day sugar detox.  I browsed the cookbook, but knew I would have to wait to start cooking from it.  Well, my mother always said, “Good things come to those who wait”.  Needless to say, she hit the nail on the head…this cookbook is OFF DA CHAIN!  Now, I’ve tried to make several bagel recipes, but they lack the texture I desire.  I want the dough texture I miss and yet the taste of chewiness too!  Hayley’s recipe for bagels on page 50 is the best I have ever found!  I say this because I forget I’m not eating a grain free, gluten free, wheat free bagel.  This bagel is legit and will have you jumping for joy because it will taste just as you recall bagels do!  Oh..did I mention Hayley is AWESOME and letting me share her recipe with you?  Now if this recipe doesn’t make you run and buy her cookbook for more awesome ones, I’m not sure what will!

A little secret I’m going to let you in.  See the bottom left corner bagel?  It my was first attempt at creating the shape.  I did not use enough tapioca flour on my hands to create the shape.  I was too nervous I would ruin the bagel with too much, do not be nervous like me!  I found the flour stuck when needed to and the rest dusted off my hands onto the mat.  Another trick, I used a slotted spoon and did one bagel at a time.  I rested the slotted spoon under the bagel until it started to float and then lifted the spotted spoon up and out came the bagel, which slid right onto my baking mat.  The baking was easy and I followed all her directions, step by step.

Let me talk for a second about Hayley’s cookbook, Without Grain.  I have made three recipes from her cookbook, first was the bagels (they got me hooked).  Then I followed with her classic meatloaf (it got two thumbs up from the husband).  However, her Indian Butter Chicken also received two thumbs up from my husband!  Needless to say, her cookbook is easy to follow and develops amazing recipes!
